Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day celebrates its 36th anniversary this year - each year attracting more people as the event is enhanced and new ideas are implemented. Our 2009 Canada Day Festival drew over 40,000 people.

This year's parade is televised by Rogers TV* and Dave FM will be broadcasting live on location!

53rd annual Fishing Carp Derby

Location: Riverside Park (along the Speed River)
Time: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This free activity is open to children ages 2 - 16 yrs of age. The object is to reacquaint children with the local nature. We operate a catch & release activity while awarding the participants with prizes for their efforts no matter how big or small. We have categorized them as longest, shortest, smallest, largest in weight as well as most unusual or rarest.

This friendly, family event ends at noon and our contestants are awarded on stage in front of the Bandstand.

36th Annual Canada Day Parade

Location: Start @ King St. & Bishop St.
Time: 1:00 PM

The largest running Canada Day Parade in the Country is our very own Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day Parade. The Parade starts at 1:00 pm from the corner of King St. & Bishop and makes its way along King St. and continues on through to Riverside Park for a total of 4 km. Our parade consists of many colourful entries such as marching bands, Shrine clubs. The parade is not without the presence of our military faction. The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association will fly over at approximately 2:00 PM. There are new entries added each year giving Cambridge Canada Day Parade something worth the watch. This year we are paying homage to the 2010 Vancouver winter games by inviting athletes, torch Bearers, volunteers to attend in the parade.

5th Annual Children's Activity Centre

Location: Riverside Park (Old Petting Zoo Area)
Time: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM

This free Children's Activity Centre runs from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm and is a favourite of children under 12 and their families. Activities at the Centre include the ever popular face painting area, a tree planting from 2-3 PM. A painting/colouring area, bubble play area (a hit with the younger children who love to blow soap bubbles and run around) and games area. Parents and older siblings are encouraged, by our enthusiast volunteers to participate in each activity promoting positive family interaction. We welcome back free pony rides.

Rogers Entertainment Stage

Location: Riverside Park
Time: 2:00 PM - 11:00 PM

The 4th annual Free Live Music features amazing talent from our local musicians who showcase themselves while providing entertainment to spectators of all ages. New to the 2010 line up will be a "flash-mob" dance as inspired by the 2010 Winter Games and will be on at approximately 3:30 PM. The evening ends with the live singing of our National Anthem both in English and French.

36th Annual Fireworks Display

Location: Riverside Park
Duration: at Dusk for approximately 20 mins

The 36th annual Fireworks Display has been a long-standing tradition here in Cambridge since the early '60s. The setting has always been inside Riverside Park and because it is set near the water, this evening's activity is the most memorable and picturesque part of our Canada Day celebration. At our 2009 event, it was recorded that 40,000 people enjoyed the 24-minute show inside the park, while thousands of others blocked the streets gazing up at the fire in the sky.

Note: In case of rain, the fireworks display will be held on the Friday, July 2nd.

Rogers TV, Cable 20, celebrates our nation’s birthday with exclusive LIVE coverage of the 36th annual Cambridge Canada Day Parade Thursday, July 1 at 1PM followed by an encore presentation at 9PM. Additional airings are scheduled for Friday, July 2 at 9AM and Saturday, July 3 at Noon.

Rogers TV’s Giovanni Petitti and Rosalind Horne will bring viewers every maple leaf moment as the nation’s largest running Canada Day Parade makes its way down King St. in Cambridge. Plus, reporter Kara Harrison will be at street-level to capture the red and white sentiments of spectators celebrating our country’s 143rd birthday.

Important:

  • No personal fireworks permitted in the park.
  • There is no parking in Riverside Park on Canada Day.
  • The noise from firewroks can be very frightening to a dog. Please consider leaving your pet at home.
